An exciting rematch looms for number one Kiwi female orienteer Lizzie Ingham in the first round of the 2010 SILVA Superseries, against Danish representative Zenia Mogensen.
The two talented orienteers both achieved their best ever Junior World Championships results in the Sprint race in Göteborg, Sweden in 2008.
Now they are matching up for six sprints over three days in Round one of the orienteering Superseries.
While Mogensen had the edge on Ingham in Sweden in 2008, finishing 5th to Ingham's 15th, the tables may be turned down under with a home advantage for Ingham.
She is however playing down her chances against Mogensen and her fellow Danish representative Maja Alm.
"I'm not confident of a win. But then, I never am. It's the first race of the series and there are a few other Kiwis who are in great shape" said Ingham. "There's Rita Homes and Amber Morrison for starters, both really fit, and you can never rule out Piret Klade from Estonia."
But after a tough two weeks of final training with the Central Scorchers team in Wellington, Ingham looks to be in great shape to take on the internationals and locals alike over six high speed map sprints over the weekend.
"It's going to be pretty intense and a real test of focus. We'll give those Danes a run for their money" said Ingham.
The 2010 SILVA Superseries Orienteering starts at the Sprint the Bay weekend in Havelock on Friday January 22, with two scoring results coming from the six sprint races around Hawkes Bay.
