New Zealand will be represented by Martin Lukes and Graeme Butcher at the Commonwealth 100km ultra distance running championship in Keswick, England in mid-September.
Lukes from Christchurch has competed with distinction at previous world 100km championships. At the 2007 championship, held in the Netherlands, Lukes was sixth in 6h 46m 50s and in 2006 in Seoul he was eighth running 6h 58m 11s.
Butcher of Masterton is the national 100km champion winning in Taupo in February in 9h 0m 56s. He also won the 2006 title in 8h 31m 30s.
Meanwhile Rachel Kingsford, the North Island cross country champion, has been selected to replace Rowan Baird at the Oceania cross country championships in Christchurch this coming Saturday. Kingsford, from Matamata, is currently studying at Otago University. Baird is injured and has withdrawn. Rowan Hooper is the other New Zealand representative in the senior men's race.
