Spoils were shared evenly across the country, with six winners from six schools at the Silva 2009 New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships at Pukepuke Beach near Foxton.
Angela Simpson (Rotorua Lakes High) had a clean mistake-free run in the forested sand-dune terrain to win six minutes ahead of Laura Roberston (Chilton Saint James) who was heading for a hat-trick of titles at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level.
Simpson, like many School Champions before her, returned from the Junior World Championships fired up and in dominating form.
"After experiencing the consequences of mistakes at the Worlds a week ago, I took extra care on the tricky legs and minimised my mistakes" she said, after her victory.
And, after the Dolomites mountains in Italy - "it was flat!" she remarked - "lots of fun".
Also picking up his first Secondary Schools title was Mathew Ogden of Massey High School, ahead of team-mate Gene Beveridge, in Senior Boys.
Cosette Saville (Pukekohe High School) was the victor in Intermediate Girls, only 30 seconds ahead of Lauren Turner (Samuel Marsden College).
Speedster Tim Roberston (Hutt International Boys School) was back in top form (after missing the National Champs while overseas representing HIBS in Beijing at hockey) and won the Intermediate Boys Championship by28 seconds, ahead of Edward Lawley (New Plymouth Boys).
Winners of the Junior Championship were Kieran Woods (Mt Albert Grammar) in Boys, and Holly Edmonds (Napier Girls High).
Attention turns to the relays on July 18. also at Pukepuke Beach, where the top school Relay and Overall titles will be determined.
