On Sunday 4th August a special birthday party will be taking to the streets of Taupo and everyone is invited. The annual Mizuno Taupo Half Marathon will be celebrating its 20th birthday.
Regarded and respected as the country's largest pure half marathon event, it is now also one of the longest running events.
This year, event organisers have a special goal of attracting 1000 locals to the event.
Taupo Half Marathon Society Chairperson, Keith Crate, explains why this is a goal dear to the organising committees heart.
"1000 locals is something we have got very close to the in past and a number we would love to achieve this year. So many locals have enjoyed increased health and fitness because of the great events that are offered in the region, we hope Sunday 4th August is a day that lots of locals come out to celebrate that with us."
While it is the events birthday, it is the entrants who will receive the presents; all finishers will receive a medal and a quality fitness event shirt.
Not to mention one lucky person taking home a trip for two to Hawaii, including airfares and 7 nights' accommodation.
The event is part of the 63.3 Series which features three half marathons over three months in three stunning locations. Since its conception in 2009, the series has grown in popularity as people from around the North Island travel to Taupo to take part in this great winter challenge.
Like previous years, profits from the event will be directed back to the community. Last year the society raised over $20,000 that assisted with young and talent athletes with chasing their sporting aspirations.
Entries received before Thursday 4th July will be in the draw to win a Mizuno Prize Pack.
