Entries are still coming in for this year's Kawerau King of the Mountain and the online entries will close at midnight 24th Oct.
Late entries will be accepted on the day at the registration marquee on Firmin Field.
Shay Williamson and Sjors Corporaal will once again do battle for the title with Williamson looking hungry to defend his first ever title. Corporaal and Williamson have been sharing the spoils of titles and placing for the past two years and there is very little to separate these two amazing athletes. An outside chance is the ever improving Kris Mortensen who finished 5th last year with a sub 60 time of 58.42.
In the Women's race the Queen title is looking like a fine race for supremacy. Demelza Murrihy- Topp (2nd in 2011) represented New Zealand in Pomona and won the Queen title in the Australian sister race.
Murrihy-Topp has never won the Queen title in Kawerau and this year she will have a mighty challenger with Helen Rountree (NZ Mountain Running Team and Mt. Maunganui record holder) making her first trip up Mt. Edgecumbe.
Ten times Queen and present record holder, Meagan Edhouse will return to the race after an absence of several years, Edhouse should never be ruled out of a podium place.
The Australian contingency competing in the Trans Tasman Challenge will consist of Philip Saldais in his 3rd visit to Kawerau (1.01.56 time in 2011), Martin Saldais on his 2nd visit (1.06.25 in 2011) and the first time veterans, Leslie Webb and Andrew Town (4th overall behind only Labinsky, Corporaal & Williamson in Pomona) making up the Australian competitors for 2012.
