"At 16.59 this evening I was informed of the official results in the Ports of Auckland Round The Bays. Councillor Cameron Brewer completed the race in 47 minutes and 9 seconds. My time was 51 minutes and 5 seconds. I want to congratulate Councillor Brewer on his victory and I wish him all the best for future running events. I enjoyed running and raising money the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind," declared MP Nikki Kaye on Facebook tonight.
Councillor for Orakei Cameron Brewer said it was a hard fought race over 8.4kms. He thanked the Auckland Central MP for conceding so graciously.
"Nikki Kaye is a good runner but she has been suffering from an on-going ankle injury. She also started this particular challenge towards the back of the field. I was nearer the front. I suspect if we had started together, our times would have been very close."
Mr Brewer said there have been a lot of unhelpful allegations made via social media including one that he caught a taxi and went via the high road. Another suggestion was that he gave his number and barcode to a Kenyan runner to use.
"With the official times now in, I don't think we need to spend any time trying to prove these theories. Let's just live with the result. It was a lot of fun, the conditions were perfect, and I was pleased to give the www.chchheart.co.nz t-shirt appeal some publicity," said Cameron Brewer.
