An independent review of Swimming New Zealand’s High Performance Programme is about to get underway, led by Wellington businessman Chris Ineson.
SPARC's most recent investment in the sport, announced in December, was conditional on an independent review of its high performance programme being completed by 30 April, 2011.
SPARC has invested $0.825m in swimming for the first six months of this year, with funding beyond that contingent on recommendations of the independent review being implemented.
The review will identify barriers to success in swimming's high performance programme, and recommend changes aimed at increasing the chance of New Zealand swimmers winning medals in 2012 and beyond. Areas of focus will include high performance programme leadership, coaching and support for athletes.
The review will consult with a wide range of people involved in the sport, including current and former swimmers, coaches, Swimming NZ Board members, management and staff.
Consultation will take place throughout March with the final report due to SPARC and Swimming NZ by 30 April 2011.
