After a series of discussions over the last week between Jorge Sandoval, Race Director of the Trust House Cycle Classic and PureBlack Racing it was announced today that the team would now be competing in this month’s UCI international Trust House Cycle Classic.
Commenting on the announcement Jorge said he had agreed to accept the late entry of PureBlack Racing after meeting with Carl Williams, Sports Director of PureBlack Racing in Wellington last week and the team made it clear they had always wanted to be part of the event and had apologised for not getting their final paperwork in on time.
"The decision to allow Pure Black a late entry was mine alone, and I did it principally for the benefit of the five Pure Black riders, who would not otherwise have had the chance to compete through no fault of their own,"
"At the end of the day having PureBlack Racing compete is in the best interests of NZ cycling" said Jorge. "They have paid a late entry fee, the extra money going into the prize-money pool and we have decided to move forward and focus on the race." Sandoval said.
"We are very pleased that Jorge has agreed to include us in the Trust House Cycle Classic said Carl. As New Zealand's top ranked UCI event this is a race we always wanted to be part of. Jorge's willingness to reconsider is a clear demonstration of the way in which he always puts the riders first. He puts a lot of hard work into the Tour alongside his sponsors and support crew and we will now focus on preparing for the race and doing everything we can to make this a memorable race."
The 24th edition of the Trust House Cycle Classic will be run in Wellington and the Wairarapa from 26 – 30 January.
