A proposal to construct a walking and cycling track from Cromwell to Pisa is out for community feedback.
This proposal is a joint initiative between Sport Central and Cromwell Promotions and in response to community feedback to develop a walking and cycling track from Cromwell to the top of Lake Dunstan.
Approximately $60,000 has already been awarded to Sport Central and Cromwell Promotions to upgrade some of the existing tracks, as well as to form this proposed new link from Cromwell Township to the boundary of the Parkburn Quarry.
The proposed track would run within the Crown owned lakeshore margin bordering Lake Dunstan. Central Otago District Council has already lodged an application with Land Information New Zealand for establishing a management agreement for the lakeshore margin.
The initial stage is to build a cost effective track, with the section through the Pisa area built to a higher standard, similar to the track alongside State Highway 8B. Bill Godsall from Sport Central said the intention is to upgrade the rest of the track to a higher standard if required. "The motivator for Sport Central getting involved is the need to have a safe walking / cycle track linking Cromwell and the head of the lake, so everyone can enjoy the great landscape we all share."
Sport Central and Cromwell Promotions welcome community views and feedback on their joint proposal.
A public meeting is planned for Saturday 22 January from 9.30 am – 11.30am at the Lowburn Hall for anyone who would like to know more about the proposal.
Copies of the statement of proposal are available at Sport Central Office, Cromwell Service Centre and Cromwell Information Centre, and from www.codc.govt.nz
Submissions close on Friday 4 February at 4pm.
