Shortly after 6pm tonight a cyclist was riding along Tamaki drive towards Mission Bay.
The 27 year old female cyclist took evasive action to avoid a motorist who opened their car door.
The cyclist has fallen under a truck travelling alongside her.
Despite emergency services best attempts she was unable to be saved and died at the scene.
Whilst the investigation of this incident is still being conducted, police advise motorists to check thoroughly for cyclists before opening car doors or pulling out from parked positions.
Tamaki drive was reopened to traffic at 8.45pm.
The cyclists next of kin are still being advised and it will be unlikely that her name will be available before 8am Thursday morning
The 27 year old female cyclist killed last evening on Tamaki Drive in Auckland, can now be named.
She was Jane Mary Bishop, a U.K. citizen working in New Zealand temporarily.
