Hayden Roulston is in yellow after his Calder Stewart BikeNZ team won the opening team time trial at Powernet Tour of Southland this morning.
The team, which includes Greg Henderson and Jeremy Vennell, clocked nine minutes and 47 seconds for the 8.42 kilometre stage.
The Subway-Avanti Pro Cycling (9.58) and Share the Road (9.59) were the only other teams to go under 10 minutes.
“The team executed the time trial perfectly,” Roulston said.
“Our aim was to keep speed consistent and we did exactly that.”
This afternoon's 81 kilometre stage starts at 1pm and takes the 114-strong field out of Invercargill and then back through the city before heading down to Bluff and the tough Bluff Hill climb.
