Kiwi kids aged 7 – 15 years are invited to register for the 2011 Weet-Bix Tryathlon series which will travel to 12 different towns and cities across New Zealand from December.
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon series holds the World Record for being the largest children's sporting event in the world as certified by the International Triathlon Union.
Over the past 19 years more than 200,000 New Zealand children have participated in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon, including sporting stars Debbie Tanner, Alison Shanks and Andrea Hewitt at the start of their careers.
"The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is an iconic Kiwi event which continues to grow thanks to the thousands of young New Zealanders who run, swim and bike their way to achieving a personal best," says Nigel Chenery, Senior Product Manager for Weet-Bix.
"We are encouraging kids of all backgrounds and sporting abilities to give their local Weet-Bix Tryathlon a go and experience the fun of this great New Zealand event."
The event course is based on a small scale triathlon and kids can participate as individuals or with the support of a tag-team of two or three friends.
To ensure kids have a safe and happy experience, trained volunteers are stationed throughout the course, and lifeguards are on hand to assist with the swim leg.
Registrations received two months prior to the event date will be given a 10% early bird discount, and parents and teachers are encouraged to enter kids as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as the events regularly sell out.
Families and school groups can nominate kids who require financial support in entering the event through the Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation, which aims to provide kids of all backgrounds with the opportunity to participate in a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event.
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation provides funding towards the entry fee as well as assistance with necessary equipment and support to complete the event such as running shoes or swimming lessons.
