Hayden Roulston hopes the inclusion of controversial American cyclist Floyds Landis in this year’s Powernet Tour of Southland will not have a negative impact on the event.
"I supported him coming last year but in light of his revelations and accusations I just hope he does not attract or generate any negativity for the event or for cycling," Roulston said.
"The Powernet Tour of Southland is a fantastic event. It's a great race, well run and is a great opportunity for many of our domestic riders to experience a tough tour in New Zealand so it would be a real shame if he (Landis) generated any negativity like he has done recently at events overseas."
Roulston, fresh from his silver medal win at the Commonwealth Games, will chase Tour of Southland title number four with a powerful Calder Stewart- Bike NZ National Invitation Team that includes fellow Pro Tour rider Greg Henderson and US based Jeremy Vennell who rides for the Bissell Pro Cycling team.
