Hayden Roulston wants to race for New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games and is confident New Zealand team officials will make decisions in the best interests of the team.
The double Olympic medallist has just returned from his European base to prepare for the World Road Cycling Championships road race in Melbourne next weekend and then the Commonwealth Games where he is also racing on the road.
“I want to go to the (Commonwealth) games,” Roulston said.
“I will be in a better position to make a decision when I know all the facts but have faith the team officials will make the best decisions in the best interests of the team.”
“It’s disappointing and quite unbelievable we are even having to consider whether we go to the Games or not, but I’m really keen to wear New Zealand colours and love racing for my country.”
The World Championships men’s Road race starts in Melbourne and finishes in Gleelong next Sunday 3 October.
The Commonwealth Games road race is on Sunday 10 October.
