Spots are filling quickly for Walk on the Wild Side, an adventurous fundraising event for Cure Kids, a charity investing in research to find cures for life-threatening illnesses impacting Kiwi kids.
Spaces for the 17km adventure walk, which traverses beautiful private farmland, bush and wetland, and follows the spectacular coastline on Auckland’s wild west coast, are limited to only 500. To prepare for the challenge, and in return for their entry fee of $250, all 500 entrants will be given access to an individually tailored, online, eight week health and fitness programme developed by PLHealth, a corporate health management company.
“Walk on the Wild Side offers a great opportunity to not only get back into shape after winter, but to also get adventurous with fundraising for a great cause that makes a real difference to the lives of Kiwi families,” said the charity’s GM – Brand & Business Development, Carolyn Hobson.
“This is the first Walk on the Wild Side. In time we hope to have a network of wild walks. The inaugural event provides a great opportunity for Aucklanders to explore the fantastic scenery that exists in their own backyard, while also making a real difference to the lives of the thousands of children that live with life-threatening illness through their fundraising support.”
To help Cure Kids reach its $300,000 fundraising goal for the event, entrants will be encouraged to top up their entry fee and fundraise a further $350 in the lead up to the November event, with all proceeds going towards funding vital medical research into all illnesses affecting Kiwi kids.
Already signed up for the programme are star couple Faye Smythe (Shortland Street’s Tania Jefferies) and Te Kohe Tuhaka (Zave from Go Girls), as well as Shortland Street’s Jacquie Nairn (Wendy Cooper) and Gerald Urquhart (Luke Durville).
