Nominations are now open for the 2010 Manawatu Secondary School Sports Awards.

The awards acknowledge students for their achievements in the regional, national and international sporting scene for the qualifying period of October 8 2009 to September 17 2010.

Nomination forms can be downloaded online at sportmanawatu.org.nz. Alternatively, forms can be collected from the Sport Manawatu office at 50 Queen Street, Palmerston North, the district offices in Levin, Feilding and Dannevirke, or from secondary schools.

Nominations close on Friday 24 September 2010.

“The event is a great opportunity for the 15 Secondary Schools within the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua districts to gather and celebrate student’s sporting successes” says Sport Manawatu’s participation manager Rachel Cheer.

Code awards are presented to the top achieving male and female from each sport. From these, a Supreme Male and Female Sportsperson of the Year is announced.

Also awarded is Team of the Year and Official of the Year.

This year’s ceremony will be held at Palmerston North’s Convention Centre on Friday October 29.

The 2009 winners were:

  • Supreme Female Sportsperson: Te Paea Selby-Rickit (Netball, Palmerston North Girls High School)
  • Supreme Male Sportsperson: Scott Burch (Athletics, Awatapu College)
  • Team of the Year: Feilding High School 1st XV Boys Rugby Team
  • Official of the Year: Sarah Robson (Netball, Palmerston North Girls’ High School)
