On your marks, get set and get training for the Victory Community Centre’s community fun run, or walk.
Centre Coordinator, Gareth Cashin says the V5k / Wairepo 5k community event is a good opportunity to join a group of people for some physical activity.
“The event isn’t until the end of October, but there’s a training plan starting soon to help people get ready to either walk or run the course,” he says. “We are encouraging friends and whanau to get together to follow the programme, but we can introduce people and help join them up with others if necessary.”
This is the second year the fun run has been held, with 120 people taking part last year. As the event is during the Spring Ride Stride programme, organisers are hoping even more people will join the fun run to clock up kilometres.
The Victory Community Centre is offering free health checks to anyone before they start the programme.
The fun run is on Sunday 31 October from 1.30 to 4pm, and goes from Victory Community Centre, along the Victory Railway Reserve and finishes back at the Victory Community Centre. On the day, people are encouraged to wear fancy dress, and decorate their prams to give the event a festival feel.
Everyone will get a medal, there are spot prizes and the event will close with live music and kai.
