Nick Willis announced his return to competition with a solid showing in the Falmouth Mile. Finishing second in 3:59.73 Nick was passed on the line by Russell Brown of Oregon in 3:59.61 after a close race throughout.
With a first lap of 57 seconds a small gap appeared between the leader and a group headed by Willis and Brown leading into the 800m mark. In the final 600m Ed Moran (4th - 4:02) took the lead before Willis came to front and lead down the home straight. Willis held his position until the final dip where Brown nabbed the narrow victory.
This was Willis's first race since surgery in March and shows positive signs for a possible appearance for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in October for which he has been pre-selected in the 800m and 1500m.
The Mile race is held in conjunction with the prestigious Falmouth Road Race in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
