The process around entries for Athletics New Zealand Championship events and in particular how late entries are handled has been reviewed, and the following will apply for events held after 1 January 2010.
Standard entries for all Athletics NZ championship events (excluding events managed by groups other than Athletics New Zealand) will close at midnight on the Sunday approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the championships.
Up to this stage, a list of entrants shall be listed and updated regularly on the event web page of the Athletics New Zealand website.
Entries received up to the Sunday midnight will be listed on the event web page of the Athletics New Zealand website as soon as is practicable on the Monday morning.
Late entries will be accepted until midday on the Tuesday. Any entries received after midnight Sunday and before midday Tuesday will require payment of an additional late entry fee of $50 per event.
Absolutely no entries will accepted after midday Tuesday. The final entry list will be posted on the event web page of the Athletics New Zealand website by midday on the Wednesday.
Athletics New Zealand's Sport Manager Brett Addison, in announcing the change, said that the new process, although not a big adjustment, will allow athletes who believe they have been entered, to check during a 24 hour window during the working week and make a late entry if necessary. The late entry fee has been reduced.
Addison emphasised that athletes will still be responsible for ensuring their own entries and that no entries will be accepted after midday on the Tuesday. The first event the new process will apply to is the 10,000m track champs in Tauranga on 5 January for which standard entries will close Sunday 27 December and late entries will close on Tuesday 29 December.
