Put a spring in your step and Push Play the affordable way with Wellington City Council’s Push Play Outdoor Festival. There are brochures dotted around town in Feeling Great stands, libraries and pools, filled with all sorts of things to do throughout October and beyond.

The Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Morrison, says there are lots of activities for people to try out at a heavily-discounted rate, if not for free.

“Many people might want to try activities like diving or sailing, but could hang back if they’re worried about being locked into an expensive course. This festival makes some of these activities more accessible by giving Wellingtonians a taster of all kinds of sports,” says John.

“Kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, cycling groups, tramping expeditions, Push Play days for kids and rock climbing – these are just some of the things that’ll be available,” says Cr Morrison.

Last year was the first Push Play Outdoor Festival for Wellington, and it attracted more than 2000 participants. Organisers hope the great spring weather will continue and encourage even more people to get out and about this time.

Councillor Morrison encourages all Wellingtonians to get out there and try one of the diverse activities on offer next month.

“I personally prefer taking my dogs for a walk by myself for some quiet time but if dog lovers are keen to get their beloved pets together, there’s a quirky-sounding ‘Beagles and Friends’ dog walk taking place this month and next month. I believe there’ll be goodie bags for both canines and humans alike.”

Festival brochures are now available from Feeling Great stands, Wellington City libraries, swimming pools, recreation centres and cafés throughout the central city. You can also download the programme from the Feeling Great website, www.feelinggreat.co.nz
