More than 1000 nominations have been received from people in the community wanting the dedication of coaches acknowledged in the SPARC Volunteer Coach of the Year Awards.
Nominations close on 4 September.
SPARC Chief Executive Peter Miskimmin says the hundreds of nominations registered across the country tell fantastic stories about parents, teachers and club coaches making amazing contributions to sport and recreation in New Zealand.
"At SPARC we believe that volunteers are the heart of sport. The nominations coming through really are testament to the goodwill these coaches create through their selfless commitment to grassroots sport," Miskimmin says.
"I’m delighted by the number of nominations so far and want to encourage those thinking of nominating a coach to get their nomination in."
Nominations can be made online at http://volunteercoach.watties.co.nz/ or on forms available at any one of the 17 regional sports trusts around the country.
All those making a nomination go in a draw to win one of 34 sports vouchers. Coaches can be nominated in the Student, General or Lifetime award categories.
Winning coaches receive coaching apparel from SPARC and a generous selection of products from Wattie’s. One coach in each region also wins travel, accommodation and entry to SPARC’s 2010 coaching convention.
