Dust off those handlebars and get on your bike for two great cycling events this Wednesday, 16 February, as part of National Bike Wise Month.
Start the morning with the Go by Bike Day Breakfast supported by various groups including Bike Wise, New Zealand's national cycling programme, and Cycle Aware Wellington, a Wellington advocacy group.
Cyclists will meet under the sails at Queens Wharf between 7.00am and 9.00am to enjoy a delicious free breakfast. There will be spot prizes, free bike checks, some great music and the chance to hear some inspirational speakers, including Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
Mayor Wade-Brown says it's a wonderful way to celebrate cycling, recognise those who already cycle and encourage others to give it a go.
At the end of the working day, join Mayor Wade-Brown for the Mayoral Bikewise Challenge. Cities all over New Zealand will be vying for the title of 'Cycle Mad City' by getting the largest number of cyclists following their Mayor on an easy, fun ride.
The Mayoral Bikewise Challenge leaves from under the sails at Queens Wharf at 5.30pm. The ride will continue for a short way along the waterfront to Oriental Bay - part of the Great Harbour Way - where cyclists will then carry on their ride home.
"Cycling is great for the environment; it is easy on the wallet and terrific exercise," says Mayor Wade-Brown. "I look forward to having you join me to support safe cycling in Wellington."
