Avalanche Peak Challenge - Postponed
The annual Shoe Clinic Avalanche Peak Challenge went through a significant change in 2014. Due to past issues with safety in bad weather, participant inconvenience of a point to point course, and the increasing cost of heath and safety measures such as first aid and helicopter time, the Avalanche Peak Challenge had a new course in 2014.
The race will under-take the same 1833m summit of Avalanche Peak, but take a different descent down to finish back in Arthur's Pass Village. The distance will be approx 13km and the winning time is expected to be around 2hrs. Entry fees have been reduced by $15 and on this course bad weather would be unlikely to force cancellation. The Arthur's Pass finish line makes it more convenient for you and offers a perfect coffee spot for your supporters while you participate.
However, with razor-backed ridges, snow-capped peaks and amazing high mountain bush tracks and views, this run or tramp across the northern tip of the Southern Alps is still a true high experience not to be missed. But don't take our word for it, experience the new-look Shoe Clinic Avalanche Peak Challenge yourself.
Update: Avalanche Peak Challenge is postponed return in 2017, probably in March.
