That Dam Race
That Dam Race takes in some of New Zealand’s most amazing scenery along with three of the Meridian Energy hydroelectric dams.
The course takes in part of the Alps to Ocean cycle trail and runs from the high country township of Omarama to the holiday spot of Otematata. From there you take a left hand turn around Loch Laird and over the Benmore Dam, around the lake to the Aviemore Dam and keep heading east to a turnaround point at the Waitaki Dam and then back to Omarama via State Highway 83.
At 108km with 1,100m ascent, it is going to be a good test of fitness and determination. But for all that effort you get the rewards, with spectacular views of Lake Benmore, Lake Aviemore and the breath-taking Omarama Valley.
That Dam Race is a fundraising event for Omarama School.
